Triad Fruit Growers - Fruit Processing Center

January 2012

Watch for the date of the HACCP certification class, which may be scheduled as early as March. If you would like to receive additional information on this class, contact Kathryn Holmes at the Extension Office.

October 2011

On October 25 Francesca Hyatt of RAFI-USA made a site visit in support our of project and talked with members of the Triad Fruit Growers. We discussed the use of some of the equipment and our plans for equipment installation and certification.

August 2011

Our equipment is in! Well, some of our equipment has arrived and is awaiting pickup in Yadkinville. Our next step is to set up the building and equipment in preparation for next year's harvest.

June 2011

After receiving a community grant from RAFI to establish a processing facility to make apple and grape juice, and eventually value added products, we placed our order for the fruit processing equipment. We also have rough plans for the building to store the equipment, which will allow our grower members to use the site at their convenience when needed. Grower-members will also have an opportunity to take a certification class in the spring, sponsored in part by our local Extension Office and NC State University. While probably another year away from an official grand opening, we invite farmers to join the group, help us develop the center, and take advantage of this RAFI-sponsored project.

Our mission is to create a community fruit processing center where small fruit farmers and growers can demonstrate the significance and benefit of processing fruits and berries from their natural state into value-added products, to increase income opportunities beyond the normal selling season. We believe that by joining together we can leap hurdles that small fruit farmers and growers face individually.
