Our Harvest - September 2008

These are a few of our favorite photos from our harvest shared with family and friends. Ceresta and Matthew were the first ones in the vineyard.

Matt and Ceresta

Gail and Bob drove from Jamestown to help with the harvest. The vines were heavy with fruit and the sweet fragrance of the grapes lingered long after we had finished picking the grapes.

Richard and Catherine

Our children Richard, Catherine, and Matthew have enjoyed being involved in the vineyard.

Matthew, Aunt Carol and Ceresta

I am fairly certain Matthew is getting some advice from both Aunt Carol and Ceresta. Farming does bring family and friends together in more ways than one.

Cool Beans! It's time for our first break.

Grape preserves and jam

The Butler family are harvesting grapes to make preserves and jam.

Paul, Kristi, Gail, and Bob

It is amazing we can still smile after harvesting 1500 pounds of grapes!

The grapegrower's reward

Paul was pleased with both the health of the vines and the quality of the grapes.

Eddie and Matt

Eddie and Matt help us harvest the Noble muscadines in the afternoon. There were many yellow jacket wasps and honey bees in competition for the fruit.

Catherine and Paul

Paul and Catherine load the lugs of Carlos muscadines for their trip to Grove Winery. Each lug weighed in at fifty pounds.

The grapes are weighed, crushed, and pressed as the first step in making muscadine wine for Chinqua Penn.

Kathryn, Max, and Paul

We estimated our harvest potential three weeks before the anticipated harvest date.

Papa and Gabe

Gabe is an enthusiastic helper at everything he does.

Song of Solomon 2:13

The fig tree putteth forth green figs, and the vines with the tender grape give a good smell.
